From the very beginning, our mission was bold and unapologetic: to centre feminism in international politics, challenge entrenched systems of power, and create new pathways to peace, justice, and security.
We are proud to say — with your support — we succeeded. Together, we brought feminist foreign policy from the margins into the mainstream. We advised governments, challenged public and academic narratives, and amplified the voices of those fighting on the frontlines of human rights and equality. We achieved many “firsts” — and delivered far beyond expectations:
- The first-ever organisation fully dedicated to feminist foreign policy
- The first international summit on feminist foreign policy
- The first book on feminist foreign policy by our co-founder Kristina Lunz — a German bestseller, available also in English
- The first feminist events at the Munich Security Conference, including our now-legendary women-only dinners with heads of state, Nobel Laureates, and global activists
Beyond these milestones, we implemented more than 60 impactful projects: Amongst others, we worked to strengthen women’s and LGBTQI* rights in countries such as Uganda and Afghanistan; co-developed a truly intersectional feminist international cooperation policy in collaboration with over 100 activists from the Global South across more than 25 countries; and tackled urgent global challenges — from gendered disinformation and cybercrime legislation affecting marginalised communities, to the international backlash against women’s rights, abortion access, femicide prevention, nuclear disarmament, justice for victims of nuclear testing, and underfunded feminist movements.
We also produced over 40 groundbreaking publications on peace and security, human rights, climate justice, anti-racism, and feminist foreign policy — shaping discourse and policy around the world.
We began in 2018 with no funding or institutional support — only vision, determination, and a belief that another world was possible. More than 400 people joined us at our launch in Berlin-Mitte, and from that moment forward, the momentum never stopped.
When global and political crises hit — such as the Taliban’s return to power in 2021 — we responded swiftly in collaboration with our partner HÁWAR.help, raising over 160,000 Euros for Afghan women’s human rights organisations within days and amplifying their voices by hosting a press conference in Berlin.
When progress emerged — like the commitment of the Federal German Government to pursue a feminist foreign policy in 2021 — we celebrated that a concept developed by feminists over the past 100 years had finally entered the mainstream, albeit in an imperfect form.
This work has always required courage. In recent months, it demanded even more.
And yet: we close this chapter with deep pride in what we’ve built — and with unshakable belief in what comes next. To everyone who walked this path with us, especially in the most difficult times: thank you. The seeds we planted together will grow far beyond us — in many places, in many forms. Because the future of foreign policy is still — and always — feminist.
With gratitude and conviction,
Nina Bernarding & Kristina Lunz and the whole CFFP Team
