London, 23 July 2019 – Upon the selection of Boris Johnson as the UK’s new Prime Minister, it is more important than ever to hold those in power accountable for their actions. The Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP) has published a new briefing on Brexit and what this ministerial transition signals to the British public. [1] The political uncertainty of Brexit and continued increase in hate crimes requires new ways of understanding and conducting foreign policy. [2] [3]
Marissa Conway, Co-Founder and UK Director of CFFP, said:
“Though Mr Johnson has positioned himself as a feminist and women’s rights supporter, his actions and behavior indicate otherwise. As Mr Johnson steps into his new role, innovative new policies and funding opportunities must be prioritised to protect vulnerable groups and institutionalise human rights throughout the Brexit process.”
CFFP welcomes Mr Johnson’s reported endorsement to promote women within the Conservative party, and encourages him to promote the meaningful inclusion of all people who are disproportionately excluded from policymaking throughout the government. [4]
