SUMMARY:Femizide verhindern. Abtreibungen legalisieren.
DESCRIPTION:Jetzt ist die Zeit zu handeln! \n📅 Wann? Montag\, 21. Oktober 2024\n🕒 Einlass: 10:30 Uhr (letzter Einlass: 11.30 Uhr) / Beginn: 11:55 Uhr\n📍 Wo?

SUMMARY:Resilient Voices: Defending Women’s Rights against Pushback
DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, there has been an alarming global rise in attacks on women’s rights. Across various regions\, illiberal and authoritarian movements have increasingly targeted women’s autonomy\, using it as a battleground for political gain. This pushback comes in various forms\, including restrictions on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR)\, on citizen’s rights including democratic participation and on economic rights\, aiming to maintain traditional gender roles. Such trends are not only threatening individual freedoms and eroding the progress made in gender equality and public health\, they also threaten diverse and pluralistic societies and the stability of democracies in general. This global pushback against women’s rights is further compounded by intersecting crises\, including the COVID-19 pandemic\, armed conflicts\, and economic instability\, which have disproportionately impacted women and marginalized groups. In this context\, defending and advancing women’s rights is not just a health or gender issue — it is a fight for human rights\, democracy\, and social justice. This side event aims to address these challenges head-on\, advocating for a feminist foreign policy approach that prioritizes the protection and promotion of women’s rights worldwide. \n\n\n\n\n💬 Discussion & Exchange: This event will give activists from various regions and backgrounds room to share their experiences in combating the increasing pushback against women’s rights. It aims to spotlight the crucial role of civil society movements in addressing and curbing this pushback and raise awareness of the escalating attacks on women’s rights. The event will foster a deeper understanding of these challenges and mobilize international support for feminist foreign policy approaches. It will serve as a platform for connecting and networking among policymakers\, activists\, and experts\, enabling the exchange of best practices and strategies. \nOur discussion will feature insights from high-profile panellists\, including leading experts in human rights\, gender policy\, and international development. \n\n\nModerator: \n\nAnnalena Baerbock\, German Foreign Minister\nSpeakers: \n\nDüzen Tekkal\, Co-Founder/CEO HAWÁR.help\nKristina Lunz\, Co-Founder/CEO Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy\nDr. Stellah Bosire\, Medical Doctor\, Lawyer\, Researcher\, Global Health Practitioner & Founder of the Africa Center for Health Systems and Gender Justice\nNika Kovač\, Founding Director\, Institute 8 March Coordinator\, Campaign My Voice\, My choice\nMarie-Simone Kadurira\, Research and Communications Consultant at The Accelerator for GBV Prevention\, Founder of Vasikana Vedu\n\n\n\n\n\nHosted by: Permanent Mission of Germany to the UN\, HAWÁR.help and the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy. \n📍The event will take place in the Auditorium of the Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nation \nDon’t miss out on this important discussion about the future of women’s rights worldwide. \nPlease engage with us by using the hashtag #defendwomensrights #defendSRHR and #FeministForeignPolicy\, as well as by tagging the co-hosts. \n\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:From theory to action: the climate crisis from a Feminist Foreign Policy angle
DESCRIPTION:Watch the event here\n \n  \nA note on feminism\, Feminist Foreign Policy and the Climate Crisis \nAs with every crisis\, it is the most marginalised people whose livelihood and security is threatened most severely by the climate crisis. Furthermore\, the gendered dimensions of the crisis are often ignored or downplayed. Increasingly at most conferences and climate actions\, people highlight the importance of gender inclusivity and the importance and value of women experts – however there is only very little progress. Can Feminist Foreign Policy\, as adopted and implemented by the German\, Mexican\, and many other governments and promoted by feminist civil society\, be a driver for change? \nA Feminist Foreign Policy acknowledges that tackling the climate crisis and achieving climate justice are deeply connected to pathways to feminist peace. The same systems that oppress women and other marginalised groups are the very systems that destroy our planet. For FFP advocates it has always been clear: We need policy solutions that are intersectional\, justice-focused\, and human-centred. The concept of Feminist Foreign Policy is here to offer exactly that. \nCOP27 brought forth important decisions and steps with regard to loss and damage. But it is safe to say that the conference was a huge disappointment when it came to the gender negotiations\, which almost completely failed during the conference (from a civil society perspective). Thus\, the hopes but also the stakes are high for this year’s conference in Dubai. \nTo create momentum for feminist demands and gender equity at COP28\, the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP) and the Federal Foreign Office\, together with other partners\, will host a high-level\, critical\, and feminist event focusing on the connection between Feminist Foreign Policy and the climate crisis\, bringing together the voices of various feminists from all over the world. The event will shed light on the need for critical gender negotiations but also the implementation of a gender lens in all areas discussed at COP\, and be a starting point to forge alliances among committed Feminist Foreign Policy enthusiasts to unite around gender equity at COP28. \nSpeakers  \n\nJennifer Morgan\nState Secretary and Special Envoy for International Climate Action\, German Federal Foreign Office\nAyshka Najib\nClimate justice activist from UAE\nNesmah Mansoor\nCommunications and Advocacy Officer / Focal Point for Feminist Climate Justice\, Peace Track Initiative\nSheena Anderson\nProgramme Manager\, Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP)\n\nAdditional speaker tbc: \n\nKatie Gallus\nInternational Moderator & Geographer\n\n  \nEvent Hosts: The Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP) & the Federal Foreign Office of Germany  \nDate & Time: 1 December 2023\, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. (UTC+4) \nVenue: German Pavilion in Zone A of the Blue Zone (Building OA02 | Pavilion Number OA02G1) \n

SUMMARY:The Future of Nuclear Disarmament: Is Global Zero Still Possible?
DESCRIPTION:Amidst Russia’s war in Ukraine and the willingness of governments to increase military spending also for their nuclear arsenals\, discussions around nuclear weapons as security guarantors are gaining momentum: Since the beginning of the war\, for the first time\, a majority of Germans is in favor of US nuclear weapons stationed in Germany. The movie Oppenheimer\, telling the story of the “father of the atomic bomb”\, is already considered as one of the most successful movies covering the Second World War – and it does not cover the humanitarian and ecological consequences of survivors of the use or testing of nuclear weapons. In mid-August\, the first session of the Preparatory Committee Meeting for the 2026 Review Conference of the Parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) came to an end – with State Parties even struggling to agree on a summary of what was discussed. With public support of nuclear weapons increasing and governments unwilling to discuss nuclear disarmament\, the idea of Global Zero seems further away than in a long time. \nAt the same time\, survivors of the use or testing of nuclear weapons and activists committed to nuclear disarmament are unwilling to give up – and are looking for new opportunities to advance international nuclear disarmament. One avenue clearly represents Feminist Foreign Policy\, a concept which more and more states are committing. Shifting the focus from state security to the security of the most marginalized communities and individuals\, the concept calls for the focus on the humanitarian and ecological consequences of nuclear weapons. For example\, in March 2023\, the German Federal Foreign Office introduced its Feminist Foreign Policy Guidelines which among many topics covers the commitment to “support efforts to recognise and compensate the victims of nuclear tests” advocating for a safe world without nuclear weapons. \nAgainst this background\, and ahead of the Second State Meeting of State Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons\, the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy and the Heinrich-Böll-Foundation are organising the public discussion on The Future of Nuclear Disarmament: Is Global Zero Still Possible?\, which aims to foster a conversation about the need and opportunities for nuclear disarmament during a period of increased nuclear war risk\, primarily stemming from the conflict initiated by Russia\, a nuclear-armed nation\, which has persistently conveyed threats of nuclear weapon use. Further\, the event will centre the humanitarian and ecological consequences of nuclear weapons and discuss potential new avenues to nuclear disarmament\, including the concept of Feminist Foreign Policy. The event will bring together researchers on the humanitarian and ecological consequences of nuclear weapons\, survivors\, and German policy decision-makers. \nRegistration link here

SUMMARY:Women's Resilience in Shaping Feminist Foreign Policy - CFFP x Háwar.help
DESCRIPTION:The primary goal of this event at UNGA 2023 is to shed light on the critical role played by Women Human Rights Defenders in shaping Feminist Foreign Policies around the world. These courageous women stand at the forefront of resistance against authoritarian regimes and are relentless advocates for gender equality and democratic values. In the face of increasing anti-feminist attacks on inclusive spaces at the UN\, this event aims to establish a feminist and inclusive environment led by expert civil society. By featuring distinguished speakers like Luise Amtsberg\, the German Commissioner for Human Rights\, and Elizabeth Taylor Jay\, Colombia’s Minister in charge of Feminist Foreign Policy\, this event seeks to deepen the understanding of the challenges faced by women human rights defenders and underscore the significance of incorporating their recommendations into global Feminist Foreign Policy agendas. \nFurthermore\, this event will spotlight remarkable women human rights defenders from diverse backgrounds\, including Afghan\, and Yezidi activists\, to generate progressive recommendations for Feminist Foreign Policies. Speakers such as Düzen Tekkal\, a renowned filmmaker\, war correspondent\, and Founder of HÁWAR.help\, and Habiba Sarabi\, a Former Republic Negotiator and Former Governor in Afghanistan\, will share their experiences and insights. The event will be moderated by Kristina Lunz\, Co-Founder and Co-Executive Director of the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy. By actively creating a space where governments from countries with Feminist Foreign Policies come together with civil society actors\, this side event aims to identify common ground for concerted action in the pursuit of Feminist Foreign Policies that transcend national boundaries. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Western Aid for Backers of Uganda's Anti-Homosexuality Bill - Report launch
DESCRIPTION:Find the report here.\nOn Monday 24th April 2023 at 5 pm CET (11 am Eastern / 3 pm GMT)\, the Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy is hosting a special online event to launch a new research report revealing connections between aid donors and anti-LGBTQI groups in Uganda.  \nEntitled Progressive cash for the anti-LGBTQI backlash?: How aid donors and ‘feminist’ governments have funded backers of Uganda’s deadly Anti-Homosexuality Bill\, this report is based on an in-depth examination of financial records published by aid donors themselves. It reveals how taxpayers across Europe and North America have been connected – without their knowledge – to anti-LGBTQI religious groups in Uganda. This has happened\, at a large scale\, despite repeated pledges from these donors (which are all part of the global Equal Rights Coalition) to protect and promote LGBT rights around the world. SUMMARY:Munich Security Conference Breakfast Discussion - War\, Oppression\, and Strongmen: Rethinking the Role of Anti-Feminism in Autocratic Regimes
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to our Breakfast Discussion on “War\, Oppression\, and Strongmen: Rethinking the Role of Anti-Feminism in Autocratic Regimes” on Sunday 19th February\, from 7.30 to 9 am CET. \nThis event is organised in partnership with International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) and the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP)\, is part of the Responsible Leaders Hub Programme of the BMW Foundation Herbert Quandt\, side event series of the Munich Security Conference. \nIn his speech on February 24th\, Russian President Vladimir Putin justified his war in Ukraine by citing the West’s attempt to undermine Russia’s “traditional values”. This justification places a central role on the devaluation of women and LGBTQI individuals as a means of supporting authoritarian policies domestically and aggressive wars abroad. \n\nThe marginalisation of women and LGBTQI communities is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes not only in Russia\, but also in countries such as Belarus\, Iran\, and Afghanistan. Even in semi-consolidated democracies like Hungary and Poland\, the attack on women’s and LGBTQI rights is a disturbing trend in the decline of democracy. According to scholarly research\, the greater gender inequalities within a state\, the greater the likelihood that such a state will experience internal and interstate conflict\, fragility\, or terrorism. \nGiven recent elections in Sweden and Italy\, it’s crucial that we find new ways to support feminist movements and engage with anti-feminist autocratic regimes. This is particularly important for governments that have committed to a Feminist Foreign Policy or the Women\, Peace\, and Security Agenda. \nSpeakers: \n\nBonnie D. Jenkins\, US Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security\nSanam Anderlini\, Founder & CEO of the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN)\nMahbouba Seraj\, Founder & Director at Organization for Research in Peace and Solidarity\nGideon Rachman\, Chief foreign affairs commentator for the Financial Times and author of “The Age of the Strongman”\nDr. Leandra Bias\, Political Scientist at the University of Bern.\n\nModeration: \n\nKristina Lunz\, Co-Founder of the Centre For Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP)\n\nThe marginalisation of women and LGBTQI communities is a hallmark of authoritarian regimes\, this can be seen in\, notably\, Russia\, Belarus\, Iran and Afghanistan. But in Hungary and Poland\, too\, the attack on women’s and LGBTQI rights is a worrying trend in the decline of democracy. And the recent elections in Sweden and Italy make it clear to us that it is imperative that we find new ways to support feminist movements and confront anti-feminist autocratic regimes. \nFor this reason\, more than ever\, discussions about human rights\, women’s rights and LGBTQI* rights in authoritarian regimes are necessary and an essential part of Feminist Foreign Policy. \nThe event is fully booked but will also be live-streamed on the CFFP Youtube Channel. \n

SUMMARY:“A FEMINIST TAKE ON NUCLEAR WEAPONS IN GERMANY” - CFFP X ICAN
DESCRIPTION:CFFP Webinar and Brief Launch\nAn estimated 20 US nuclear warheads remain at Büchel Air base in Germany. Hopes have been high among feminist civil society that with the new government’s committment to a Feminist Foreign Policy\, and with a Green feminist minister\, whose party has a long history in advocating for Global Zero\, Germany would drive international nuclear disarmament and start a process of becoming a nuclear-free state. However\, with the Russian war in Ukraine\, the nuclear discourse has intensified across Europe. For the first time\, a majority of the German population is in favor of nuclear weapons\, a shocking shift after previous surveys found 83% of the population being against nuclear weapons. \nAnd yet\, in particular now\, more than ever\, it is important to keep fighting for a nuclear-free world. To highlight the humanitarian and ecological consequences of producing\, testing and using nuclear weapons. To create space to talk about possible steps towards a nuclear disarmament – because a Feminist Foreign Policy asks for nothing less. \nCFFP and ICAN are inviting to the webinar “A Feminist Take on Nuclear Weapons in Germany”. The webinar will highlight the voices of communities opposing nuclear weapons in Germany and internationally\, and offer policy recommendations of how Germany can align their policies on nuclear weapons with a Feminist Foreign Policy. At the webinar\, we will also officially launch the policy brief named “Feminist Foreign Policy and Nuclear Weapons: A feminist take on nuclear weapons in Büchel”. \nSome of our guests are  Beatrice Fihn (ICAN)\, Elke Koller (Büchel ist überall! atomwaffenfrei.jetzt)\, Anna Hauschild (WILPF Germany)\, Nyombi Morris (Founder of Earth Volunteers)\, Merle Spellerberg (Member of the German Bundestag)\, and others (tbc). During the event\, we will also launch our new policy briefing “A feminist take on nuclear weapons in Germany”! \nRegister for the webinar here.

SUMMARY:Study Launch - Disrupting the multilateral order? The impact of anti-gender actors on multilateral structures in Europe
DESCRIPTION:We were pleased to host the online launch event for our study “Disrupting the multilateral order? The impact of anti-gender actors on multilateral structures in Europe”. \nThrough concrete policy recommendations\, the study outlines a more consistent and strategic approach that Governments committed to advancing human rights for all can take to respond to the efforts of anti-gender actors to develop and produce alternative norms in opposition to universality and equality. \nThe work was supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. \n  \nFor the launch of the study\, we were delighted to welcome Dennis van Wanrooij\, Programme Manager – Gender Identity\, Gender Expression and Sex Characteristics at ILGA World\, Dorothy Estrada Tanck\, UN Working Group on Discrimination against Women and Girls\, Jonna Naumanen\, Senior Advisor to the EU Ambassador for Gender & Diversity at the European External Action Service\, and Lorena Sosa\, Assistant Professor at Utrecht University\, who will comment and reflect on the findings.

SUMMARY:In Solidarity with the Women on the Streets: Feminist Foreign Policy Demands towards Iran
DESCRIPTION:These days\, all eyes are on Iran. The brutal death in custody of Jîna Mahsa Amini on September 16\, after the young woman was arrested by the Iranian “morality police” in Tehran\, has sparked nationwide protests\, mainly led by students\, human rights defenders\, feminists\, and women in general. The now globally known slogan “Woman\, Life\, Freedom”\, based on the Kurdish feminist movement\, proves the feminist nature and demands of the protests. \nOver the past weeks (as of October 18th 2022)\, an estimated 185 people have been killed\, many more arrested\, and internet access has been heavily censored – but the protesters bravely continue to challenge the Iranian government. \nThe protests are not a “women’s issue”. The massive solidarity within Iran and the many different people coming together for the protests show the increasing disappointment with the government. People are fighting not only for women’s rights but speak out against corruption\, unemployment\, political repression\, and soaring prices. Like many around the globe\, we stand in solidarity with the protests and are outraged about the death of Jîna Mahsa Amini. \nWe will therefore organise an event\, together with the experts Gilda Sahebi\, Natalie Amiri\, Enissa Amani\, Sawsan Chebli\, Sanam Anderlini and the German Federal Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock. We will have an honest and bold conversation about the current situation in Iran and possible feminist reactions to it. Our online event will discuss responses to Iran and the ongoing protests specifically from a feminist perspective. With more and more countries announcing a Feminist Foreign Policy\, we want to use this space to articulate clear and actionable demands – not only for the German and Iranian governments but the international community in total. \nThe event will be held in English. \n\n\n\nWatch the recording here:

SUMMARY:Expert Roundtable Discussion: Understanding the Impact of anti-gender actors on multilateral structures in Europe

SUMMARY:Summit Side Event: Letting Our Anger Do the Talking! Race\, Racism\, and Whiteness in (Feminist) Foreign Policy
DESCRIPTION:With this event\, CFFP continued crucial discussions about race\, racism and whiteness in (Feminist) Foreign Policy and opened up space for BIPoC activists\, researchers\, policymakers and their allies to come together and jointly work on solutions. We brought together various voices from all areas of foreign policy with expertise on issues such as climate justice\, development policy and humanitarian aid\, and academia. The goal was to make a case for decolonial\, anti-racist\, and intersectional feminist politics and to support efforts to decolonise the inherently racist practice of foreign policy. \n  \nWatch the recording here: \n \n

SUMMARY:Feminist Foreign Policy and Climate Justice
DESCRIPTION:In our understanding\, Feminist Foreign Policy – dedicated to human security and putting people’s safety over the safety of states – acknowledges the climate crisis as a security issue and thus commits to fighting all factors directly and indirectly contributing to climate change. Only by striving for intersectional climate justice and accepting how the climate crisis already threatens and destroys livelihoods and makes people\, especially marginalised communities\, unsafe\, we can achieve justice and security for everyone in the long run. Together with former Irish president and climate justice advocate Mary Robinson and Ugandan activist\, feminist and environmentalist Dorothy Nalubega\, we will discuss how to implement international climate agreements with an intersectional feminist approach\, challenge the climate crisis as a parameter for conflict and migration and ways for Feminist Foreign Policy as means to rebalance power inequalities in the fight against climate change. \nThis webinar is a part of our ‘Climate Justice 4 All’ webinar series hosted in partnership with the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens. \n\n\n\n  \nWatch the webinar here:

SUMMARY:Climate Justice and Gender Justice: Addressing the Climate Crisis with an Intersectional Feminist Approach
DESCRIPTION:Social movements like the 350 and Fridays for Future have become strong voices holding administrations accountable for enforcing international agreements such as the Paris Climate Agreement. These agreements are under threat\, gendered and racialised inequalities of the climate crisis are too often neglected\, both within and between nations\, and the COVID-19 pandemic seems to overshadow the climate commitments on both sides of the Atlantic. \nHow does the climate crisis impact the current societal structures\, both within and among nations? How can we use the climate crisis as an opportunity to reshape power structures? How is the fight for climate justice interconnected with the fight for feminism and how can a Feminist Foreign Policy address the current climate emergency? \nThese crucial questions were explored during the final event of our webinar series with 1014. \n  \n\n\nWatch it here:

SUMMARY:Rights\, Responsibilities\, and Revolutions - Understanding Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in a Transatlantic Context
DESCRIPTION:In recent years attacks on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) – such as the Global Gag Rule and Poland’s abortion ban – have been growing on both sides of the Atlantic with the number of actors fighting to undo the international achievements for womens’ and sexual minority rights gaining further ground. Across the globe\, states and NGOs are working to undermine the international women’s rights agenda: They lobby to alter the language in UN resolutions\, advance alternative understanding of international treaties\, delegitimise feminists and their work by advocating cultural realism and ‘traditional values’ and pull financial resources from education and health services that account for reproductive rights. How can existing national and international human rights legislation be protected? How can the strengthening of transatlantic relations and collaborations between Europe and the US support SRHR on both sides of the Atlantic? How can a Feminist Foreign Policy contribute to the protection and expansion of SRHR? \nThis event is part of our webinar series\, “New Approaches to Foreign Policy – Feminist Foreign Policy and its Potential for Advancing Transatlantic Relations” hosted in collaboration with 1014. \nWatch here:

SUMMARY:Climate Justice: Theory & Groundwork (An Introduction to Intersectional Thought and the Interconnectedness of the Climate Crisis\, Systemic Inequality\, and Marginalised Climate Activism)
DESCRIPTION:The climate crisis is more than global warming and the need to produce less carbon dioxide. It works as a multiplier of inequality\, threatening and worsening the living conditions of already marginalised people. The aim of this event was to highlight the importance of fostering climate justice from an intersectional perspective\, tackling racial\, social\, economic\, health and environmental injustice altogether. \nThis webinar is a part of our ‘Climate Justice 4 All’ webinar series hosted in partnership with the Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWatch it here:
